The Vols Drafted three young players in the Season 23 League IV.53 Draft. With the 13th pick in the Draft the Vols got 18 year old PG Richie Koch (pictured) from St.Albans School (HS) in Washington, DC. Koch has tremendous potential. Koch's current strengths include his Jump Shot, Jump Range, Passing, and his Stamina. His weaknesses include Rebounding, Inside Defense, and Free Throw. Rebounding and Inside Defense shouldn't be a problem for Koch seeing as he is only 6'0" tall and will most likely only be playing a guard position, but his free throw could really come back to bite him and is something he needs to work on if he wants to become a key part of this Vols team. Koch may see a lot of playing time as a SG because of his great Jump Shot and Jump Range for a rookie.
With the 29th Pick in the Draft the Vols selected another PG by the name of Ken Baer. Baer is from Ohio and attended Mentor High School in Mentor, OH. Baer helped lead his Mentor Cardinals team last year to a Division 1 State Championship over Toledo Rogers High School. Baer's strengths are his Ball Handling and his weaknesses are his Jump Shot, and his Free Throw. Baer has only a little less potential than Koch and looks to compete with him and Vladislav Ozhogov for the backup PG spot this season.
With the Vols final pick at 45th overall they selected 19 year old F Emerson Tobias from Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY. Tobias played both SF and PF in his freshman season with the Pride due to his 6'10" height. He averaged 3.2 PPG and 2.9 RPG. He appeared in all 32 of the Pride's games and started 10. Lead the team in field-goal percentage by shooting 61 percent (43-for-70). One of four players to appear in every game. Scored six points on 3-of-4 shooting in his college debut versus LIU on Nov. 11. Also scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds at UNC Wilmington on Jan. 7. Set a career high with nine rebounds vs. Drexel on Jan. 18. Ended the season with six-point efforts in two of the last three games at William and Mary and versus UNC Wilmington, respectively. Picked up first career assist at Oregon State on Nov. 16. Grabbed five offensive rebounds versus Delaware on Feb. 14. Averaged 3.6 points and 3.1 rebounds in CAA play.
